Release Tension – Restore Balance – Reconnect with your Body
Deep Tissue Massage is a targeted therapeutic treatment designed to relieve chronic muscle tension, alleviate pain, and improve mobility.

Unlike gentle relaxation techniques, Deep Tissue Massage works through the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, using slow, deliberate strokes and firm pressure. It is an excellent choice for those experiencing persistent discomfort, postural strain or recovery from physical or emotional stress.
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on breaking down adhesions and restoring natural movement in the muscles and fascia. These adhesions can result from injury, poor posture, repetitive strain injury (RSI), or ongoing stress. Using hands, forearms, elbows, and thumbs, the therapist gradually warms and works through the superficial layers to access the deeper muscle fibres.
Clients often describe the experience as good pain – an intense but a relieving sensation that brings long-lasting relief once the tension is released. Communication is key throughout the session to ensure pressure is therapeutic but never overwhelming.
It is more likely that you would wish to have a full body deep tissue massage rather than a localised one. People who come to see me for a Deep Tissue Massage usually request an overall treatment rather than a topical one. When in doubt as to which avenue to choose, let’s have a chat prior to your visit. However, there is nothing stopping you from having a Deep Tissue Massage on localised areas, rather than a full body one. The choice is yours!
It is helpful in alleviating chronic pains and aches such as stiff neck, lower back pain, muscle tightness and symptoms of sciatica and piriformis syndrome, and general soreness all over the muscles and soft tissue.
What to Expect during a Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue massage uses some of the same strokes and techniques as Swedish Massage but at a deeper level and at a slower pace. It concentrates on areas of tension where pain is prevalent in order to reach the deeper layers of muscles by applying sustained pressure.
Whilst Swedish massage is aimed at relaxation and reducing muscle tension, Deep Tissue massage, however, aims at primarily addressing chronic pain and muscle fatigue related to over-training or other postural issues and repetitive strain injuries (RSI).
Therapists will sometimes use tools such as massage gun and/or fascia scrapers to treat the muscles where hands and fingers cannot reach well enough. During this period, the therapist will stay in contact with you to assess the threshold or the discomfort caused by these different techniques. Always let the therapist know if the pressure is too much!
This treatment will have the same impact on the body as Sports Massage. You may feel a bit sore for the next 24 hours but the soreness will soon disappear.
